Three new police accountability positions available!

 

Policing Family Violence – Senior Lawyer

This new and exciting position will drive strategic, public interest litigation for family violence survivors experiencing police duty failures and/or police accountability issues. They will provide advice, legal assistance and representation to family violence survivors experiencing police duty failures and/or police accountability issues, and will contribute to the overall strategic direction of the project. The solicitor plays a central role in supporting the team of secondees, volunteers and other lawyers as well as supporting collaborative sector advocacy for systemic police accountability and just outcomes for survivors.

The Policing Family Violence – Senior Lawyer will be a committed and experienced lawyer with a passion for systemic and survivor-centric advocacy and social change, supporting survivors in achieving police accountability. They will work closely with the Advocacy Coordinator and the whole Police Accountability Project team to ensure the overall success of the Policing Family Violence – Changing the Story Project.

Advocacy Coordinator – Race Discrimination

The Advocacy Coordinator – Race Discrimination will drive the ongoing campaign to end racially discriminatory policing in Victoria. They will engage in parliamentary lobbying, strategic communications, community organising, and public events as they support a team of extraordinary young people to take on leadership roles throughout.

We seek an experienced, outgoing person with demonstrated skills in community organising, political analysis, lobbying, community education education and media. The position is embedded in the Centre’s Police Accountability Project, and will work closely with other legal, human rights and community sector groups on the campaign objectives.

Police Accountability Solicitor

We are seeking an experienced and committed solicitor to work toward the political, cultural and systemic changes for human rights. The Police Accountability Solicitor is a key part of our team undertaking criminal defence, police complaints and advocacy towards clear human rights & police accountability outcomes.

This unique and exciting position will advocate assertively for victims of police misconduct through a strategic mix of civil, criminal and human rights mechanisms.

We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic and collaborative individual who is passionate about defending the rights of criminalised and racialised communities in Victoria.
